Background of the Study
Media ethics are fundamental to fostering a democratic society, ensuring that journalists adhere to principles of accuracy, fairness, and accountability. In Jalingo Local Government Area, Taraba State, the media plays a critical role in informing citizens, promoting transparency, and holding power to account. However, lapses in ethical standards, such as biased reporting and sensationalism, undermine public trust and the democratic process. Studies indicate that adherence to media ethics can enhance democratic governance by fostering informed citizenry and protecting press freedom (Ahmed et al., 2023; Bello & Yusuf, 2024). This study explores the role of media ethics in strengthening democracy in Jalingo, examining how ethical practices contribute to societal progress.
